2025 Annette Sayers Memorial Scholarship Guidelines

(Before completing your application, please read the Eligibility and General Information, as well as the Application Procedures listed below. Note that your information will not be saved if you leave this webpage. Once your application is submitted, your information will be forwarded to the appropriate party.) 

 

Eligibility and General Information

 

1.      Applicant must be a graduating high school senior or current student at an accredited college or university. 

     

2.         The scholarship is a $1500.00 check award made payable to the college/university designated by the recipient.

 

3.         Applicant must have an accumulated High School GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 or college GPA of 3.0 or above.

 

4.         Applicant must provide proof of current enrollment in a college/university before the scholarship funds will be released.

 

5.         Primary consideration for the scholarship will be based on academic achievement, leadership qualities, active church and community involvement and essay content and organization.

 

6.         Applicants must be current members of Salem Baptist Church.  Students who are recent members of the church must complete the new membership process by June 8,2025  in order to be eligible to apply for the scholarship.

 

7.         To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, all required documents must be received by the published deadline date.

 

8.         Scholarship checks will be written to the student and the school and mailed directly to the school on or before October 1, 2025

 

NOTE:  Applications with missing documents (emailed) after June 8, 2025 will NOT be reviewed. 

Application Procedures

 

To be eligible for the Annette Sayers Memorial Scholarship, applicants must submit all responses in writing. The Scholarship Committee Chair, Ms. Tamara Bailey, can be reached at educcouncil@salembc.org. Official transcripts (high school or college) and letters of recommendation must be uploaded by those preparing these documents using the Apply Button below by June 8, 2025.

 

Required Documents from the student include:

1) Activities Sheet The applicant must present information on church-sponsored activities and community service activities by listing the activities, showing dates of involvement, and identifying any leadership positions.

2) Essay Question #1  How can your personal relationship with God empower you during your medical school journey?

4) Upload a photo of student in modest attire, as it may be published in church and other publications

 

Required Documents to be mailed to the Scholarship Chair include:

The applicant must list any academic awards and honors received while in high school (for high school student) or while in college (for college students); i.e., number of semesters on the Dean’s List/Pastor’s Honor Roll, scholarship awards, etc.

 

Essays will be evaluated based on content, organization, grammar and overall structure.  Be sure to include the cover sheet in front of each typed essay.  Each essay must be a minimum of 300 words and a maximum of one typed page using a 12 point font, double-spaced.

 

REMINDER: All the requested documents, including an official transcript from the applicant’s high school or college/university, including grades from the previous fall semester, must be uploaded along with all the scholarship documents by June 8, 2025.
